Reformation Sixth-Form Study Day 2019
On 12th December 2019 Claire delivered the second ‘Reformation Study Day’ at Farnborough 6th Form College, Hampshire. This was part of an ongoing collaboration between Claire and Gavin Sheffield, Curriculum Lead for Medieval and Early Modern History. This year they were also joined by Dr Euan Roger, Principal Medieval Record Specialist at The National Archives.
The day offers students the chance to explore the wider context of the English Reformation with sessions on pre-Reformation popular piety, the origins of the German and English Reformation, the Dissolution of the monasteries and the long-term legacy of the Reformation in English culture. Students experienced university-style lectures, interactive source-based workshops and even had the chance to try their hand at a palaeography challenge.
“It was amazing to listen to such experts. Both Claire and Euan were extremely friendly and helpful, from helping to decipher the medieval texts, to giving mini-lectures on different events and beliefs. The whole day was well thought out and definitely taught me a lot.”
