A Workshop in Ruins
On the 5th and 6th October 2024 Claire will be co-convening a two-day ‘Workshop in Ruins’ at Scotney Castle with Professor Joan Coutu (University of Waterloo), Dr John Bonehill (University of Glasgow) and Rowena Willard-Wright (National Trust). ‘A Workshop in Ruins’ has been funded by The Royal Historical Society’s Workshop Grant with in-kind support from The National Trust.
The workshop explores the many guises of ruin in the context of country houses in the British Isles from c. 1548 onwards. It brings together museum and heritage site curators, and art, architectural, documentary and landscape historians to consider the changing uses and perceptions of these structures and their surroundings. Central to the workshop are the themes of climate change and sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and identities.
The outcomes from the workshop will include a blog post available via the Royal Historical Society’s website and a Heritage Industry Resource Toolkit, available online by early 2025.
